Yukai Engineering Inc. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Shunsuke Aoki), which develops numerous robots and IoT products with the motto “Robotics for Fun Living,” was a winner of this year’s iF DESIGN AWARD, the world-renowned design prize. The winning product, BOCCO emo, won in the Product discipline.

Each year, the world’s oldest independent design organization, Hannover-based iF International Forum Design GmbH, organizes the iF DESIGN AWARD.
BOCCO emo was chosen among 10,000 entries from 52 countries. The robot won over the 98-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world, with its “emotional” capabilities, ease of use for families with members who don’t use smartphones, and ability to send essential notifications.

About BOCCO emo
BOCCO emo is the next-generation model of the communication robot “BOCCO,” born in 2015. In addition to BOCCO’s functions (voice message transmission/reception, sensor linkage, weather, and reminder notifications, linkage with IoT devices, etc.), it also has a voice recognition function, hands-free dialogue, Wi-Fi/LTE communication method support, emotional expressions which create empathy, nickname settings, and system linkage through API. It delivers various information and acts as a member of the family.
The designated BOCCO emo app is a family-only bulletin board that allows users to exchange messages within the family and check the responses of the sensors. When users talk to BOCCO emo, a voice message and a text-based message by voice recognition will be sent to their smartphone. The user can also send text or voice messages from their smartphone. Families can easily communicate with members who do not have smartphones, such as children and elderly parents.
