after raising 247% the goal amount on Kickstarter

TOKYO (Dec. 26, 2017) –  Yukai Engineering Inc., a Tokyo-based robotics startup known for creating robots that bring joy to life, announced today that it launched an online shopping site for Qoobo, a robotic pillow with a cat-like wagging tail. Consumers with mailing addresses in Japan and U.S. can now place preorders for expected delivery in fall 2018. Qoobo is priced at $88 each.

The announcement comes three weeks after the company wrapped up its Kickstarter campaign for Qoobo, in which it raised ¥12,360,156 Japanese yen (approx. $110,000 USD), or 247 percent of the goal amount, from 908 backers.

Originally intended as a tool to provide comfort to seniors, Qoobo is an interactive pillow with a tail that makes realistic moves in response to the user’s stroking and rubbing. It became one of the most talked-about gadgets on the internet after it was unveiled Oct. 3 at CEATEC Japan 2017, netting more than 10 million online video views. Yukai Engineering is expected to showcase Qoobo along with its other products at CES 2018 in Las Vegas from Jan. 9-12.
