KASHIWANOHA, Chiba (Feb. 18, 2020) — Yukai Engineering, Inc. will launch “HUG ME Qoobo,” a new event series giving people a chance to play with Qoobo, a therapeutic robotic pillow, while lounging, on Feb. 18 at Tsutaya Books’s Kashiwanoha store in Chiba. Qoobo will be available for purchase during the event.
The event series is designed to enable people to enjoy being with Qoobo in the way they would at home or in their offices. Qoobo will be placed all around the bookstore, and people would be able to cuddle one (or two!) while relaxing on a sofa. We encourage everyone to visit the store during the event and pet Qoobo the robotic pillow to see how it responds to the affection through tail-wagging!
What’s Qoobo
Qoobo is a robotic pillow with a lifelike tail that wags differently, depending on how you stroke it. Qoobo is designed to provide comfort to you in the way live animals would. We used our innovative robotics technologies to create Qoobo for people who cannot own a pet, including allergy sufferers, apartment-dwellers and busy professionals.
Qoobo became one of the most talked-about gadgets on the internet after it was unveiled at CEATEC Japan 2017, netting more than 10 million online video views. So far, more than 15,000 units of Qoobo have been sold. In response to our fans’ feedback, we released Qoobo in the new Silky Black color — a new addition to the original colors of French Brown and Husky Grey — on Nov. 1, 2019. Studies have found the use of Qoobo is effective in stress reduction as well as in improving the well-being of seniors. This “animal therapy” robot series will be expanded in November 2020 with the expected release of Petit Qoobo. (A crowdfunding campaign for Petit Qoobo is scheduled for mid-March.)
