Yukai Engineering and RISU Japan Team Up for STEM Education
Hands-on learning aimed to foster next generations of engineers
TOKYO (Feb. 2, 2017) – Yukai Engineering Inc., a Tokyo-based robotics startup, and RISU Japan, an educational service provider, announced their collaboration to develop workshops and products that are helpful to educating future engineers. The project will kick off this spring with robotics classes offered in two of RISU’s Tokyo learning centers, using Yukai’s family communication robot called BOCCO as the main learning material.
The partnership brings together the technological expertise of Yukai, which is known for intuitive IoT devices that merge pysical and virtual experiences, and the educational know-hows of RISU that provides data-driven individualized learning programs. Yukai and RISU share a common goal to help youngsters flourish through creative learning.
“Classroom use of BOCCO should spur children’s imaginations and enthusiasm for learning,” Yukai CEO Shunsuke Aoki said. “BOCCO is a simple robot and built tough. It makes an ideal learning material. With RISU’s scientific approach to education, I believe we can provide intriguing learning experiences.”
RISU Japan President Tomotaka Imaki noted that the company has been interested in hands-on and practical STEM teaching, especially robot programming.“We look forward to working with Yukai to offer a fun environment in which children can take the lead on their own learning,” Imaki said.

・Development of new products/services for their own companies
Yukai, which name means “fun” in Japanese, strives to make the world a fun place to live in through robotics, and has created many one-of-the-kind products, including BOCCO that received Good Design awards. RISU offers distance learning math programs with the use of tablets and provides one-on-one writing programs while researching and delivering data-driven education at its Japanese and U.S. locations.
